The essential oil of lavender  ( Lavandula officinalis ) is the best-known worldwide essential oil. Lavender flowers are the most used for their medicinal properties and pleasant aroma, among which their calming effect stands out.

Lavender essential oil is not irritating to the skin, but it is recommended that before applying any essential oil, a few drops are diluted in vegetable oil (Argan, olive ...) and applied to the inner area of the elbow to check no allergic reaction occurs.

In aromatherapy, the lavender essential oil is considered a true panacea due to its properties that we are going to list below. It is extracted from the bluish-violet flowers of a small bush.

HISTORY OF LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

To the soothing and healing properties of burns, we owe the discovery of lavender essential oil. As therapeutic practice aromatherapy did not appear until the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1930s, René Gattefossé, a prominent perfumer of the time, suffered severe burns to his hand due to an accident in his perfume laboratory. Immediately and without thinking he immersed his hand in a container containing lavender oil and saw how the pain subsided, he did not even develop any infection and the burn healed cleanly and quickly.

  1. Antifungal and antibacterial properties: Its ability to fight bacteria and viruses has been demonstrated. 
  2. Calming effect relaxes muscles, facilitates sleep, and is excellent in states of stress and anxiety.
  3. Healing of wounds and burns. Improves insect bites.
  4. In cosmetics, it is used against dermatitis and acne.
  5. Analgesic properties: It mitigates pain and inflammation in dermatological, muscular, or bruising conditions.

  • For anxiety and insomnia

If you regularly suffer from insomnia, add 2 drops of lavender essential oil on the pillow, you will rest better and it will promote sleep.

For anxiety, a very simple and effective remedy is to moisten a tissue with a few drops of essential oil to inhale during the day. We recommend a tissue as it can leave stains on a tissue.

  • For skincare

For pimples, to relieve burns and insect bites, apply 3 drops on a cotton ball and leave it in the area to be treated for about 5 minutes.

  • Against headaches

If you suffer from annoying and disabling migraines take good note, 10 drops of lavender essential oil  + 2 drops of peppermint essential oil, mix in 50 ml of argan oil. Rub the temples with a circular massage with this mixture. 

Lavender essential oil not only has therapeutic properties and uses, but it is also a good cleanser due to its antibacterial properties.

  • Carpet cleaning

Mix lavender essential oil and baking soda. Sprinkle the carpet, let it act for 15 minutes, and vacuum. 

The same remedy helps us to clean the mattress but leaving it to act for 30 minutes.
